Nigeria Since Independence History Project

CEDDERT played a crucial role in the organization of the Workshop on Events, Issues and Sources of Nigerian History, under the auspices of the Presidential Panel on Nigeria since Independence History Project, which was held at State House, Kawo, Kaduna 7-9 June 1993. CEDDERT Chairman, Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman, was the principal organizer, and CEDDERT provided the Secretariat and other supporting services. This workshop brought together Nigerian politicians who had participated in the struggle for independence, were important actors in the First Republic, and who played crucial roles in stabilizing the country following the January 1966 coup and the July 1966 counter-coup and ensuing civil war. Politicians attending included Alhaji Yerima Balla, Mazi S.G. Ikoku, Alhaji Isa Kaita, Mr. Patrick Dokotri, Chief Sunday Olawoyin, Major-General Hasan Usman Katsina, Alhaji M.D. Yusufu, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, Dr. Liman Ciroma, Mr. John Mark Samci, and James Oluleye. The results of the proceedings were published in a book, Inside Nigerian History, 1950-1970, edited by Yusufu Bala Usman and George Amale Kwanashie.
